The Russian wheel maker TZSK, based in Togliatti, will license technology used in making steel wheels from the German company Hayez Lemmerz. TZSK will use the technology in making wheels for the Russian automotive market.

Goodyear Launches New Truck Tires · 08/15/2006
Goodyear has launched a new line of truck tires, the Wrangler SilentArmor Pro-Grade, incorporating Kevlar and Durawall rubber and aimed at owners of larger pickups who use their trucks regularly in heavy-duty applications. The new tires will be available for such vehicles as the Ford F-250 and F-350, the Chevy and GMC 2500 and 3500, and the Dodge 2500 and 3500. No word yet on price.

This fall Goodyear’s Gemini Automotive Care chain will feature on NASCAR’s new TV series, NASCAR Angels, on which its mechanics will repair needy customers’ cars on TV. Goodyear is also expanding its DuraSeal self-sealing tire technology to its Unisteel G177 line of tires, used on construction and other heavy-duty vehicles. Goodyear’s revenue was up 3 percent in the second quarter of 2006 vs. the same quarter of 2005, to $5.1 billion.

Cooper Tire reported that sales were up more than 22 percent to $625 million in the quarter ending in June 2006, and declared a dividend of 10.5 cents per share to be paid in September. At the same time, the company’s CEO, Thomas A. Dattilo, announced that he was resigning. No successor identified yet. These events are expected to have little if any impact on Cooper’s retail tire customers, at least in the immediate future.
