On September 12, the Wheel Task Force of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the College for Creative Studies (CCS) kicked off a competition, open to seniors at CCS, to design “unique, steel-intensive wheel designs,” according to an AISI statement.

Michelin and Pirelli have taken the top accolades in J.D. Power’s 2006 survey of customer satisfaction with their OEM tires, with Michelin taking the top spot in the luxury/sport, pickup/full-size van, and SUV categories, and Pirelli ranking highest in the mass-market/nonluxury category.

Harley-Davidson has announced that it will buy most of the assets of wheel supplier Castalloy. Separately, Goodyear has said it will sell “tire fabric” operations to the Korean conglomerate Hyosung for about $80 million.
