American Tire Distributors to Buy Samaritan · 07/28/2006

American Tire Distributors (ATD) recently concluded an agreement to buy Samaritan Tire, adding Samaritan’s Minneapolis distribution center to its existing nationwide network of 72 locations.

ATD’s chairman and CEO, Dick Johnson, said that the purchase "will be an excellent complement to our existing Midwest distribution centers in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Des Moines, Iowa; and Lincoln, Nebraska." Samaritan brings with it more than 1,000 customers, mainly in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The Samaritan acquisition is the latest in a buying spree by ATD going back at least a couple of years: In 2004, ATD purchased Texas Market Tire and Target Tire; in 2005, it acquired Wholesale Tire Distributors; and earlier this year, it bought Silver State Tire and Golden State Tire. The terms of the Samaritan deal were not disclosed.
