Goodyear Launches New Truck Tires · 08/15/2006

Goodyear has launched a new line of truck tires, the Wrangler SilentArmor Pro-Grade, aimed at the “pickup truck owner who regularly hauls or tows heavy loads.”

Based on its premium-grade Wrangler tire, the new SilentArmor Pro-Grade includes features previously available only in tires designed for heavy-duty off-road use. For one thing, the new tires include steel belts and a layer of Kevlar—the material used in bulletproof vests and flak jackets—to “help absorb road noise and provide a smooth and quiet ride.” In addition, the tires incorporate Goodyear’s Durawall rubber in the sidewalls and treads “to help resists punctures and cuts.”

“The new Wrangler SilentArmor Pro-Grade helps provide a tough tread for those who use [three-quarter- and one-ton] trucks in heavy-duty, high-torque applications—all the while delivering the comfort and quiet ride they expect from Wrangler with SilentArmor technology,” said Todd Hershberger of Goodyear.

The new tires will be available for bigger pickup trucks, including the Ford F-250 and F-350, the Chevy and GMC 2500 and 3500, and the Dodge 2500 and 3500. They will come with a “50,000-mile treadlife limited warranty” and a “30-day no-obligation trial period.” No word yet on price.
