Goodyear Tire announced that its Gemini Automotive Care chain will be featured this fall on NASCAR’s new TV series, NASCAR Angels. On the show, Gemini mechanics will repair needy customers’ cars on TV and “offer car care tips to viewers,” the company said. “With the help of Goodyear Gemini’s professional technicians…, life becomes better for the families touched by the television show,” said Odis Lloyd, director of NASCAR’s automotive aftermarket program. Gemini has more than 1,900 service stations in the U.S.

Simultaneously, the company said that it was expanding its DuraSeal self-sealing tire technology to its Unisteel G177 line of severe-service tires, typically used on mining, logging, landfill, and road-building vehicles. According to Goodyear, the technology consists of a “gel-like, solvent-free compound built into the inner liner of the tire,” which “seals punctures up to 1/4 inch in the tread area.” Damn. Wish that were available on my all-weathers!

Goodyear also reported that its sales for the quarter ending in June 2006 were $5.1 billion, up 3 percent versus the second quarter of 2005.
