Goodyear Touts Quality as Strike Drags On · 12/15/2006

Goodyear reported recently that quality audits conducted by NSF Industrial Strategic Registrations at three of its tire plants found that the company was in “100 percent compliance with its quality standards.” “As we have always said, Goodyear will never compromise quality,” said Joe Gingo, Goodyear’s chief quality officer. “We fully expected to meet the international quality standard as usual, and we are pleased with—though not surprised by—the result.

Meanwhile, the AFL-CIO joined the United Steelworkers in demonstrations in the USW’s ongoing strike against Goodyear. In a statement, the AFL-CIO lambasted Goodyear for what it described as Goodyear’s “assault on the living standards of its workers and abandonment of its retirees.”

According to Goodyear, the quality audit had been scheduled before the USW strike began in October.
