What's a Koenigsegg? · 11/01/2006

Here’s a hint: You can’t scramble it, fry it, or boil it—not literally, anyway. Here’s another hint: It has four wheels, and would cost the average American 20 years’ salary, or $722,000 (not including taxes, of course). The Koenigsegg CCX is a supercar—or, more aptly, a superdupercar—and like many supercars it sports Michelin tires.

On display at Michelin’s SEMA booth (that’s the Specialty Equipment Market Association; not for me and my Toyota) were the Buggati Veyron, the Pagani Zonda Roadster, the RUF Rt12, the Saleen S7, the Fisker Latigo CS, the McLaren F1 LM, and the Caparo T1—as well as the Koenigsegg. Let’s put that at $5 million worth of car in a single booth, in round numbers.

Michelin used the occasion to tout its Pilot Sport PS2 tires, which, the company said in a statement, meet the “unique demands of these ultimate driving machines.” “Michelin pushes the envelope for supercar performance through our research and development efforts,” said Michelin exec Parmeet Grover. “These supercars provide us a unique platform, in addition to our success in motorsports, to ensure that drivers enjoy uncompromising safety and performance for both city and highway driving with ultimate confidence.”
